Discover The Wonderful Age Old Health Benefits Of Black Tea

The Chinese have been known for drinking tea, at least in movies and in restaurants. This picture that we have been given is a true picture, they have done this because of its refreshing and soothing effects. Black tea is an Asian tea and it comes from the plant called Camellia Sinensis. The actual difference between teas though comes from how the leaves are processed, not from where they come from.

Green tea, black tea, and oolong (black dragon tea) are the three teas that we get from the Chinese. Black tea has a more full taste and actually tastes better with age as in comparison to the other two. It undergoes full oxidation, which gives it its aromatic and rich taste. The leaves of the Camellia Sinensis are first dried and then fermented in order to make black tea. It is not only known for its captivating flavor but it is believed to have health promoting nutrients as well.

The benefits of black tea is the result of flavonoids in tea. Originally scientists believed that the process of fermentation changed the flavonoid polyphenol would change the black tea into another form which might change its beneficial aspects but it really didn't change that aspect of it at all.

The health benefits of black tea are:

Antioxidants: These are also found in vegetables and fruit. Antioxidants have disease fighting abilities. There have been many studies investigating their benefits such as their ability to fight cancer and heart disease.

Similarly to how oxygen can make iron rust, the oxygen in our blood can be somewhat destructive. These destructive substances in our blood are called free radicals and they are the reason why our body can have massive cellular damage when we age or undergo degenerative diseases like cancer or heart illness.

Antioxidants from black tea and other sources will seek out these free radicals and destroy them. While doing this they help protect your body from aging and the effects of pollution. Antioxidants have been a big deal in the news lately in terms of their importance to our diet. They are included in vitamins as a supplement to the diet.

Caffeine: While it may not contain as much caffeine as your morning cup of coffee it still does contain enough to give you that little push you may need in the morning to get you going. You won't have the same side effects that you could have with the cup of coffee though because you will not have the heart palpitations from too much caffeine. An eight ounce cup of coffee contains about one hundred thirty five milligrams of caffeine while black tea contains only about thirty to forty milligrams per cup.

Is White Tea More Powerful Than Vegetables?

White tea is the least cooked and youngest of all tea types. It is one of the four main classifications of traditional tea. The others are green, black, and oolong tea.

For many years, researchers have discovered diverse benefits of drinking white tea daily, and recent studies suggest that it is even more powerful than green tea.

Many plants contain a certain amount of antioxidants, polyphenols, and catechins, all which offer many healthy benefits like reducing the risk of cancer development and lowering cholesterol and blood pressure. All tea have these substances present, but it is white that has the most since its leaves are the least processed.

White Tea Vs. Veggies

One cup of white tea contains more antioxidants than a full serving of broccoli. It would take 10 cups of apple juice to equal a cup of white, and is even more powerful than a bowl of blueberries or strawberries!

It is suggested that drinking just three cups a day can reduce the risk of a heart attack, lead to healthier and younger looking skin, and even fight cavities by destroying the bacteria that can lead to them. White tea can also ward off viruses that lead to the flu and common cold by aiding and boosting the immune system.

Why is it Called White Tea?

It gets its name not because the leaves are an actual white, but rather due to the little fuzzy hairs on them that give off a whitish appearance. The actual brewed liquor of this beverage is in fact a pale yellow, and not white like a glass of milk.

How Does it Taste?

White tea has an airy aroma and subtle sweet flavor that many gourmet tea drinkers world-wide fancy. It has a very pleasing character and unlike some green teas is not as grassy or vegetal. But don't let the delicate nuances fool you, they are loaded with many goodies!

White tea can release all of its antioxidants and great flavor in about 2 to 3 minutes. It is brewed in 180 degree water, and not boiling.

Varieties of White

The only thing this beverage falls short on are varieties. While still plenty to discover, they are not in the numbers as green or black types. Some common names are "White Peony", "Silver Needle", "Song Yang" and "Snowbud". Each variety has many sub-varieties since there are numerous tea farms that cultivate them in various ways.

Discovering white tea is one of the better things a person can do for their health. It is also highly recommended that it is prepared using loose leaves instead of tea bags in order to achieve the most flavor and benefits!
